While in nature, winter is a time of deep quiet and stillness, but, for many of us, it is the busiest time of year. When we are out of tune with nature's rhythms it can leave us feeling depleted, and when we are also living with chronic pain, we can become doubly depleted!
It may be difficult to avoid the hubbub of the season completely, but we can use Ayurveda to help keep ourselves nourished. Ojas is the Sanskrit word for “vigor” or “essence of vitality”. It is the energy that rules immunity, strength and happiness. So forget the eggnog this holiday season and go for this spiced Ojas Milk!
This delicious drink is a mug of pure comfort. It helps build ojas, the life-sustaining vitality that promotes immunity and well being. It’s wonderful any time you’re feeling exhausted. Use it as a meal in itself or as a late afternoon pick-me-up when vata is high. Add a healthy pinch of nutmeg for a bedtime sleep aid.
Ojas Milk
Ingredients
1 cup raw whole organic milk or almond milk
10 almonds, soaked overnight, peeled and chopped
2 whole dates, chopped
1/4 teaspoon powdered ginger
1/4 teaspoon powdered cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon powdered cardamom
Pinch of saffron(eliminate in hot weather or pitta imbalance)
